Quick answer
How do I check my Lifeline application status?
Enter your reference number (if you have it), last name, ZIP code and contact details. FreeCall Wireless looks up your Lifeline application status and tells you whether it is received, being verified, needs proof, approved, shipped or active, plus your next step.
- Received to active
- Proof alerts
- Next steps
What each status means
- 1
Received
We have your application and are preparing it for verification.
- 2
Verifying eligibility
We submitted your details to the USAC National Verifier or your state process.
- 3
Proof needed
We need a document to confirm your identity, address or eligibility. Upload it to keep your application moving.
- 4

You qualify for Lifeline. We are preparing your phone or SIM card.
- 5

What if my application needs proof?
If the National Verifier cannot confirm your identity, address or benefit automatically, your status changes to "Proof needed". Upload a clear photo of an accepted document on Upload Proof. The documents checklist shows what is accepted.
How long does a Lifeline application take?
Many applications are verified in minutes. If documents are needed, review usually takes one to three business days after you upload them. Once approved, your phone ships and usually arrives in three to seven business days.
What are my next steps after approval?
- Watch for your shipping confirmation
- Follow your package on Order Tracking
- Activate your phone when it arrives
- Use your service at least once every 30 days
