Lifeline is a government assistance program. The service is non-transferable, only eligible consumers may enroll in the program, and the program is limited to one discount per household consisting of either wireline or wireless service. Broadband may also be available under the program. Consumers who willfully make false statements in order to obtain the Lifeline benefit can be punished by fine or imprisonment or can be barred from the program.

Who can enroll?

Consumers who participate in SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, Federal Public Housing Assistance or the Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit, or whose household income is at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines. Residents of Tribal lands may also qualify through Tribal programs.

What must I do to keep my benefit?

  • Recertify your eligibility every year
  • Use your service at least once every 30 days
  • Notify us within 30 days if you no longer qualify, or if another household member receives Lifeline
  • Notify us within 30 days if you move

What is a household?

A household is any individual or group of individuals who live together at the same address and share income and expenses. Lifeline is limited to one benefit per household. Separate households at the same address must complete a household worksheet.

Who runs the program?

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) oversees Lifeline and the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) administers it. FreeCall Wireless is a private company that provides Lifeline service. We are not a government agency.
