Keep Your Phone Number when you switch
Number transfers are free and usually finish within a day.
Quick answer
Can I keep my phone number when I get a free government phone?
Yes. You can keep your phone number for free when you sign up with FreeCall Wireless. Provide your current number, account number and transfer PIN from your old provider, and do not cancel the old service until the transfer completes.
- Free number transfer
- Usually within a day
- Keep old service until done
Can I keep my phone number with FreeCall Wireless?
Yes. Number transfers, also called porting, are free. FCC rules let you keep your number when you change providers, as long as you stay in the same general area and your old account is active.
What do I need to transfer my number?
- Your current phone number
- The account number from your current provider
- Your transfer PIN or port-out PIN (ask your current provider for it)
- The name and address on your current account
Where do I find my account number and PIN?
| Provider type | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Major carriers | In your online account or app, usually under "Transfer my number" |
| Prepaid brands | Call customer service and ask for your account number and port-out PIN |
| Other Lifeline providers | Call their support line and request a transfer PIN |
How long does a number transfer take?
Most transfers between wireless providers finish within a few hours to one business day. Transfers from landlines can take longer.
What if the transfer fails?
- Check that the account number and PIN are correct
- Make sure the name and address match your old account exactly
- Call us at (918) 931-0991 and we will retry with you
Can I change my number later?
Yes. If you choose a new number now and later decide to switch numbers, contact support. Number changes may be limited to protect against fraud.
What about my contacts and photos?
Your number moves to the new phone, but your contacts and photos live on your old phone or in your cloud account. Before switching, back up with your Google account or iCloud, then sign in on your new phone to restore everything.
Is number porting safe?
Yes. The transfer PIN protects you from someone else moving your number without permission. Never share that PIN with anyone except the provider you are switching to. If you suspect your number was moved without your consent, contact your carrier right away.
Can I keep my number if I move to another state?
Usually yes. Wireless numbers can typically be kept when you move, as long as the transfer is supported. Tell us your new address so your service and 911 location information stay accurate. If you prefer a local number in your new area, ask us about changing it.
