Lifeline Providers: how to choose the right one
Every Lifeline provider gets the same federal support. Here is what actually makes one better than another.
Quick answer
How do I choose between Lifeline providers?
All Lifeline providers receive the same $9.25 monthly benefit, so compare what they do with it: the phones they offer, how much data you get, network coverage at your address, hotspot, and how easy it is to reach support. You can only have one provider at a time but can switch whenever you like.

- Compare data
- Check coverage
- Switch any time
What is a Lifeline provider?
A Lifeline provider is a phone or internet company approved as an Eligible Telecommunications Carrier (ETC) to deliver the federal Lifeline benefit. FreeCall Wireless is a Lifeline provider serving all 50 states and Washington, D.C. You apply through a provider, and the provider receives the benefit on your behalf.
What should I compare?
| What to compare | Why it matters | FreeCall Wireless |
|---|---|---|
| Phone selection | A free phone you will actually use | 5G Android free; iPhone free or discounted |
| Monthly data | Data runs maps, video calls and apps | 10 GB high-speed data plus 5 GB hotspot each month |
| Hotspot | Lets you connect a tablet or laptop | Included |
| Coverage | A free phone is useless without signal | Nationwide 5G and 4G LTE |
| Customer support | You will need help with recertification | Phone support and a Tulsa office |
| Transparency | No surprises | Co-pays shown up front, no monthly bill |
How do I check coverage before I apply?
Look at the coverage map for the addresses where you spend the most time: home, work and school. Our coverage page explains how to check your address and what to do if signal is weak indoors.
Can I switch Lifeline providers?
Yes, at any time. Your benefit is portable. When you move to FreeCall Wireless, you can keep your number and get a new phone. See Free Phone When You Switch.
How do I avoid bad Lifeline offers?
- Anyone who charges a fee just to apply
- Agents who ask for your full SSN through text or social media
- Promises of brand-new flagship phones for everyone
- Pressure to sign up for two Lifeline benefits in one household
A trustworthy provider explains the rules, verifies your eligibility through official channels and gives you a real phone number and address. Ours are (918) 931-0991 and 825 S Cincinnati Ave, Tulsa, OK 74119.
Where can I find all Lifeline providers in my state?
USAC lists participating companies by ZIP code on the Lifeline Support website. Pick your state on our States We Serve page to see how the program works where you live.
